An “Appeal to Heaven”

An “Appeal to Heaven”

Do you believe that our nation is in deep trouble?  Deep in debt, run by bureaucrats, a government not following our Constitution, immorality, possibility of war, and so many other problems face us today!  As I’ve spoken to people, I keep hearing a sense of hopelessness – the inability to do anything to make a difference and change the direction toward the Godly nation we once were.  Well, I bring you great news!!  There IS hope – and there IS something each of us can do to bring about the needed change!

It goes back to what our Founding Fathers – and before that, to the pilgrims – and what they did.  They appealed to Heaven!  To God, upon Whose principles our nation was originally founded.  It worked then – and it will work now!  God’s plan for our nation was to be a light to the world; and this has proven to be true through the years with the number of missionaries we have sent out worldwide to bring His good news to the entire earth.

Our enemies have infiltrated every aspect of our beloved land.  It’s time to take it back from them.  And, as George Washington and other founding fathers understood, we need to Appeal to Heaven for God’s intervention, as we ourselves cannot do the job.

An “Appeal to Heaven” is a phrase our founding fathers brought about from the writings of John Locke, the English philosopher who wrote a series of papers on “Natural Laws”, stating that human rights originate with God, not government.  He made the case that when people have done everything humanly possible to experience those God-given rights and have failed to do so, there remains but one option:

“And where the boy of the people or any single man, is deprived of their right, or is under the exercise of a power without right, and have no appeal on earth, then they have a liberty to appeal to heaven…” (1)

Our founding fathers took this phrase and ran with it, understanding that in the quest for America’s freedom from Britain’s tyranny, they would have to go to war, while knowing that Britain’s great military, weapons and wealth would be overpowering to the colony’s lack of resources.  They needed God’s all-powerful intervention and help.  So they took the stance that, the right to freedom came from God; He would help them.  “We will appeal to heaven,” they declared.

Our nation was originally dedicated to God by the Pilgrims.  One of the early leaders, John Winthrop of the puritan’s Massachusetts Bay Colony, used the verse “a city [nation] set on a hill that can’t be hidden…a light to the world” from Matthew 5:14, in a statement about what he believed God wanted to build in America.  They believed that America had a God-given destiny, as did our founding fathers, and subsequent leaders of our nation.

President John F. Kennedy referenced Matthew 5:14 in a famous speech, as did President Ronald Reagan and other U.S. presidents.  (2) George Washington commissioned several ships highlighting their dependence on providential help.  Each vessel flew an “Appeal to Heaven” banner (also known as the Pine Tree Flag).

That same flag became very popular, flying throughout the colonies, and was adopted as the Massachusetts state navy’s official flag.  It was (and still is) the symbol of an unwavering spirit of liberty and a statement as to where their faith was placed – not in themselves, but in God.

The Pine Tree flag came about as the official symbol as a result of what happened with the Iroquois tribes.  One of their great leaders united five native tribes (later adding a sixth), and established a confederacy among them, with a Constitution.  According to their Constitution,(3)  their covenant began with the planting of the “Tree of Peace”, where they buried their weapons in a symbolic act beneath a great evergreen tree.  The Iroquois nation was influential to our founding fathers – with Benjamin Franklin an advocate in promoting what they did as an example for the colonies.  He said in a letter:

“It would be a strange thing if [these] six nations….should be capable of forming a scheme for such an union and be able to execute it in such a manner as that it has subsisted ages and appears indissoluble; and yet that a like union should be impracticable for ten or a dozen English colonies, to whom it is more necessary and must be more advantageous, and who cannot be supposed to want an equal understanding of their interests.” (4)

The symbolism surrounding the evergreen is that of eternal fidelity.  In Genesis 21:33, Abraham planted one as a symbolic everlasting covenant.

Over the years, the symbolism and use of the Pine Tree Flag has been lost in the public eye.  Our nation has lost its way, and at this point in history, I believe only God can bring us back.  How will that happen?

As in the beginning days of our nation, we are in dire straits.  It seems we are a ship without a rudder: our leaders, for the most part, don’t use common sense in the laws they pass; the court system seems to be broken and doesn’t follow the Constitution; our society has been immoral on so many fronts.  Having been actively involved in the political realm for almost 30 years and trying to make a difference, I have watched as the situation has grown steadily worse.  In my opinion, we have no recourse but to Appeal to Heaven.

Here is what we must do:

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”-??II Chronicles? ?7?:?14? ?NKJV??

I know that thousands of believers are praying for spiritual revival.  Continue on.  If you aren’t already praying for this, start now.  God listens to – and answers – prayer.  Join in with our forebearers, and pray, declaring God’s favor and blessing over America.  By faith, call our nation back to the path of our founders, to fulfill its destiny.  People in every generation – from the time of the pilgrims – has stood and acknowledged God, and in His mercy, love and forgiveness, He has responded.  It is our turn.

The Appeal to Heaven banner is a symbol – wear it, fly it, consider it as our battle cry to the heavenlies for spiritual revival across our land.  As Pastor Dutch Sheets so eloquently puts it: “Appeal to heaven daily for a spiritual revolution that will knock out the Goliaths of our day.” (5)

God will answer.

A prayer for the New Year

A prayer for the New Year

A prayer for the New Year

Lord,

As we move forward into this year, 2019, let us find your love, joy, and peace in our hearts and minds. Help us to follow your will throughout the year. If we stray, help us find our path back to you.

You know us. You knew us before we were formed in our mother’s wombs. You know our joy and pain, our heartache and happiness. We thank you for your constant guidance and care of us. We thank you that you have given us free will to choose to follow you rather than be forced into our beliefs. We ask that you help us to remember this as we walk our daily lives as witnesses to your glory and love.

Help us to not be oppressors but to be lights to the world that we can shine brightly for you. Help us to know you more closely and walk with you on a daily and hourly bases. Let us be the best that we can be in each moment. Lord, when we stumble and fall, we ask that you pick us up and help us dust ourselves off so that we can walk taller and stronger from what we have learned.

We thank you for this opportunity of another year to begin renewed. We know so many didn’t make it this far. We pray for those families who have lost loved ones and have suffered heartache last year, and even today. We pray that you will comfort and guide them in your righteousness and love.

Thank you, Lord for all you have done and all you do. We praise your name and give you glory.

In Jesus Name we pray,

Amen

America Needs Your Prayers!

America Needs Your Prayers!

In these changing times in society, where many in America are heading away from our Judeo-Christian roots and foundation, God’s hand is all-powerful.  “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land,” says Scripture (2 Chron 7:14).  As Americans who care deeply about our country, we need to turn once again to our Father in Heaven and pray.

Trusting God in the storms

Trusting God in the storms

Sometimes the rush of life has you moving so fast down stream you don’t know which way the safety of the shore is. You find yourself being pushed along and feeling like you have no choice in the matter. Your mind is so filled with the things that are not only going on today, but tomorrow as well. These are the moments that we need to learn to slow ourselves down and remember that God is in control of our tomorrow. That He is the one we need to trust to get carry us through.

Jesus calmed the storm on the sea when the disciples were doing exactly what the majority of us would do; freak out. All they had to do was trust Him and remember that they just needed to put their eyes on Him, once again. Even though they were with Him, they didn’t always keep their eyes on Him. They didn’t always understand the full nature and the love of Christ. There are two parts to us; the human us and the spiritual us. These are constantly at war within us.

You may have heard this saying, “Two forces beat within my breast one is curse the other blessed, the one I love the one I hate, the one I feed will dominate.” The Bible reminds us that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers.” Not only is there a war going on around us; there is a war going on within us. There is a fight for who we are and who we will be. There is a fight for us to follow the nature of Christ and to follow the things of the world. Sometimes we are closer to one side than the other. Yet, even when we feel as if we are ‘failing’ as long as we remind ourselves to put our eyes back on our Creator and trust in Him to continue to keep us and know He has the best for us in mind. Then we can move forward in confidence and not fear.

Remember it is not about what someone else is doing. It is not about what someone else has. Or what they have accomplished. It is about our personal relationship with Christ. There will come a day that it will just be you standing before the throne. There won’t be anyone for you to point a finger at and ask, “what about him?” “what about what she did?” No the only question you will have to answer is “what about me?” What did you do? Where was your faith? Where was your trust? Maybe you ‘failed’, maybe you ‘succeeded’ but either way did you place your heart and mind on the things above and not below? Did you remember to look toward the hills from which comes you help? Did you remember to pray and praise Him in all situations?

It is never too late to place your heart and mind, your trust and faith, in Christ. Every day begins anew. Even every moment is one that you will never have again. You get to choose how you react and respond to this fast-paced world. It is not always easy. You may not always be able to choose one of the fruits of the spirit to help you react. You may react poorly. This is okay. This is part of who you are. It is what you do in the next moment and all the ones that follow. You will have ample opportunities to strengthen your faith and belief. Don’t be afraid to use them to place your trust in the Lord.

Prayer

Lord we thank you for this day and the trials we face. We thank you that even though sometimes we choose to react out of anger or despair, you see us where we are and hold us in your arms. You keep us safe in the shelter of your wings. We thank you that you have given us the opportunity to grow in your grace and love. We ask that you continue to help us to strive to follow you in each and every moment.

Help us not to harshly judge ourselves when we fail in these things. But help us to learn from every situation. To move forward and grow closer to you.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Eye of the Storm

Eye of the Storm

God is doing a new work in you! He is renewing your spirit. Refreshing your mind. He is giving you joy where there once was sorrow. He is preparing a place just for you!

Be encouraged! Know that the storm you are going through is only temporary. You will find yourself in its eye, filled with silence and quiet, a time for you to refresh and renew before being swept away again. Fear not! For He is with you! What He has planned for you is joy, peace, prosperity and love. What you receive, make sure you give it away to others. So their lives can be filled with His blessing and His presence. Don’t be afraid to walk through the valley. He is with you!

Whether you find yourself on top of the mountain or in the depths of the valley. Rejoice! Praise! Pray! Talk to your Father, for He truly cares for you. He wants the best for you. It is in the storms we learn to lean, trust and rely on Him. We become stronger in Him. He takes our weakness and exchanges it. We seek Him and learn His voice in that quietness that is the eye of the storm.

Prayer

Father,

We know that you love us. We know that you keep us sheltered. Yet, sometimes we forget when we are in the midst of trials and tribulations. Help to remind us in each moment that you are surrounding us with your love. That you are taking care of us and loving us. Help us to remember that when the storm rages, you calm the tide, you give us rest when we are weary.

Remind us that it is okay to give you our burdens. Not only is it okay, but you want us to. Remind us that we don’t have to travel these paths carrying things that we can place in your care. That you want to relieve us and teach us to trust you in each and every situation.

We thank you for your love and your mercy each and every day.

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen

For you I am praying

For you I am praying

My own struggles are often at the forefront of my mind: the challenges I am going to be facing and the journey that I am on. Yet, when I went to pray this morning, my thoughts were for you.

For the one who comes across this blog post, I want you to know. I am praying for you.

I don’t know your name or your situation. I don’t know where you are or where you are going. I do know that I am praying for you. I am praying that you will allow God to direct your path and your journey. That you will know His love and His light. That you will know you are surrounded by His angels as they keep watch over your each and every step.

Know that God is there to give you strength, to lean on, to help you through until you reach the other side. He cares for you, even when you don’t care for yourself. Even when you curse His name for the wrongs you find in the world. He is there. He is there waiting. Offering you hope and peace. He is there to comfort you if you will allow Him.

Even if you don’t want Him in your life; for whatever reason, know this one thing: that someone somewhere cares enough to pray for you as you read this. That God has placed it on the heart of a complete and total stranger to pray for your well-being and that you will know His love.

Our journeys are never easy. We look at the things that are happening in the world and we blame God. We don’t place the blame where it belongs; we don’t remember that He has given man free-will and power over the earth. That is it our choices that bring about so many of the things that are happening. The choices made in the garden of Eden brought about the fall of man – and our choices since then that continue to perpetuate so much of what is wrong with the world. However, we don’t need to place blame at all. We need to learn to trust God and know that He is with us; the He is suffering with us, that by allowing Him to be a part of all we do, we are stronger. We are in a better place in our hearts and our lives allowing us to give to others.

So know this, I am praying for you.
